Getting Married at the Capitole in Toulouse? Here Is What You Need to Know

First of all, congratulations. Getting married in Toulouse, especially at the iconic Capitole, is an unforgettable experience. As a wedding and elopement photographer based in Toulouse since 2017, I have had the pleasure of capturing many love stories in this beautiful city. Whether you are a local couple or planning a destination wedding, I would love to share a few tips to make your day feel calm, natural and truly yours.

Why the Capitole, Toulouse?

Toulouse, known as La Ville Rose, the Pink City, is famous for its warm terracotta architecture, charming squares and lively spirit. The Capitole de Toulouse sits right in the heart of the city. It is a working city hall, and also one of the most beautiful places to marry in the region. Inside you will find the breathtaking Salle des Illustres, a grand ceremonial hall of frescoes, marble columns and elegant arches, a true masterpiece of French architecture. Saying “I do” in this setting is nothing short of magical.

Tips for the Best Ceremony Experience

If you are marrying between April and October, keep in mind that Toulouse summers can be very hot, especially from midday onwards. If possible, schedule your ceremony earlier in the morning (before 10 AM) or later in the afternoon (after 4 PM). Why? The light. Noon sun can be harsh and create unflattering shadows. Early or late ceremonies give us soft, golden light for more flattering and romantic photos, especially if we photograph outside afterwards.

One more thing: if it is particularly hot, your ceremony may be moved to a smaller, air conditioned hall within the Capitole. No need to worry, we can still take photos in the Salle des Illustres afterwards, once it is free.

What Happens During the Ceremony?

A civil wedding at the Capitole is short but meaningful. Here is how it usually goes.

I begin with documentary photos as you and your guests arrive, capturing candid moments: last minute touches, laughter, anticipation, sometimes a few happy tears.

The ceremony lasts around 15 minutes. It includes a short speech by the officiant in French, the exchange of vows, the famous “Do you? Yes, I do”, the ring exchange and the official signing.

Afterwards, the city hall staff offer to take a group photo of you and your guests, which you receive printed with your official documents. Then it is photo time.

Your Photo Moments Inside the Capitole

Even with back to back ceremonies, we usually have 10 to 15 minutes in the Salle des Illustres right after your exit. I highly recommend taking this moment. The light, the backdrop, the romance, it is unforgettable. From there we head to the grand marble staircase, a must for elegant, cinematic portraits, and then a few frames in the Capitole’s inner courtyard, a quiet spot that often surprises couples with its calm and charm.

Extend the Magic: A Photo Walk in Toulouse

Want more from your day? Let us continue with a photo walk through Toulouse. I recommend it to everyone, whether you are having a large wedding or an intimate elopement

A walk gives you time to breathe, connect as a couple and create timeless portraits in the city where you said yes. I offer flexible itineraries of 30, 60 or 90 minutes. I would not go much longer, especially in heels or with guests waiting for a glass of wine.

But if you want to slip away, just the two of you, we can leave your guests at a nearby café and explore together. You are also welcome to bring a trusted friend to help with the veil, hold your water and give moral support. I am always happy to help too, it simply takes a little more time.

“Jenny took wonderful pictures of our civil ceremony. Although our agreement was for a two-hour session, she went the extra mile and stayed longer to make sure we got all the photos we wanted. Her kind and patient demeanor put everyone at ease. I highly recommend her.”

Bonus: The Japanese Garden of Toulouse

If you would like a peaceful spot for post ceremony portraits, the Jardin Japonais in Compans-Caffarelli is a beautiful choice. This hidden gem offers a completely different atmosphere: cherry blossoms in spring, a red bridge, koi ponds, bamboo and stone lanterns.

It is especially lovely in April when the sakura bloom, and brings a poetic, dreamy feeling to your gallery. We can include it in your photo walk if you would like a natural contrast to the city’s historic beauty.
