Getting Married at the Capitole in Toulouse, France? Here’s What You Need to Know
First of all — congratulations! Getting married in Toulouse, especially at the iconic Capitole, is an unforgettable experience. As a wedding and elopement photographer based in Toulouse since 2017, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing many love stories in this magical city. Whether you’re a local couple or planning a destination wedding, I’d love to share some tips and insights to make your wedding day truly special — and smooth.
Why the Capitole, Toulouse?
Toulouse, known as La Ville Rose (The Pink City), is famous for its warm terracotta architecture, charming squares, and lively spirit. The Capitole de Toulouse, located right in the heart of the city, is the symbol of Toulouse and its historic city hall. It’s a working government building, but also one of the most beautiful places to get married in the region.Inside, you’ll find the breathtaking Salle des Illustres, a grand ceremonial hall filled with frescoes, marble columns, and elegant arches — a true masterpiece of French architecture. Saying “I do” in this setting is nothing short of magical.

Tips for the Best Ceremony Experience
If you’re getting married between April and October, keep in mind that Toulouse summers can be very hot, especially from midday onwards.
If possible, schedule your ceremony for earlier in the morning (before 10 AM) or later in the afternoon (after 4 PM).
Why? Because of the light. Noon sun can be harsh and create unflattering shadows. Early or late ceremonies give us soft, golden light for more flattering and romantic photos — especially if we’re taking pictures outside afterward.
* Also, be prepared that if it’s particularly hot, your ceremony might be moved to a smaller, air-conditioned hall within the Capitole. Don’t worry — you’ll still be able to take photos in the Salle des Illustres after, once it’s free.

What Happens During the Ceremony?
A civil wedding at the Capitole is a short but meaningful event. Here’s how it typically goes:- We’ll begin with some documentary-style photos as you and your guests arrive. I’ll capture candid moments — last-minute touches, laughter, anticipation, maybe even a few happy tears.
- The ceremony usually lasts around 15 minutes. It includes a short speech by the officiant (in French), exchange of vows, the famous “Do you? Yes, I do, ” ring exchange, and the official signing.
- After the ceremony, the city hall staff will offer to take a group photo of you and your guests, which you’ll receive printed with your official documents.
Then… it’s photo time!
Your Photo Moments for the photos Inside the Capitole, Toulouse
Even though there are often back-to-back ceremonies, we’ll usually have 10–15 minutes in the Salle des Illustres right after your exit. I highly recommend we take this moment — it’s worth it. The lighting, the backdrop, the romance… it’s unforgettable. Then, we’ll head to the grand marble staircase — a must for elegant, cinematic portraits. From there, we can take a few more shots in the Capitole’s inner courtyard, a beautiful spot that often surprises couples with its serenity and charm

Extend the Magic: Photo Walk in Toulouse
Want even more beautiful photos from your special day? Let’s continue with a photo walk through Toulouse!
This is something I always recommend — whether you’re having a big wedding or an intimate elopement. A photo walk gives you time to breathe, connect as a couple, and create timeless portraits in the city where you said “yes.”I offer flexible itineraries — 30, 60, or 90 minutes.
I don’t recommend going longer, especially if you’re wearing heels or have guests waiting (and dreaming of a glass of wine!). But if you’d like to sneak away just the two of you, we can leave your guests at a nearby café and explore together.
You can also bring along a trusted friend or bridesmaid to help rearrange the veil, hold your phone and water, and give moral support. Of course, I’m always happy to help with all of this — but it does take a little more time.

Some Favorite Photo Spots in Toulouse:
- Rue du Taur: A charming old street that leads straight from the Capitole to the Basilica. Gorgeous architecture and colors.
- Basilique Saint-Sernin: One of the oldest and most impressive Romanesque churches in Europe.
- Place Wilson: With its lovely carousel, fountains, and elegant cafés, it’s perfect for a romantic or playful vibe.
- Quais de la Garonne: For breathtaking river views, especially at sunset. You’ll love the light here, and the reflection of the city in the water.
- Pont Neuf: The city’s oldest bridge is an iconic photo spot. Elegant and timeless.
Bonus: The Japanese Garden of Toulouse — Jardin Japonais
If you’re looking for a unique, peaceful location for your post-ceremony portraits, Jardin Japonais (Japanese Garden) in Compans-Caffarelli is a beautiful choice. This hidden gem in the heart of Toulouse offers a completely different atmosphere: think cherry blossoms in spring, a charming red bridge, koi ponds, bamboo, and stone lanterns. It’s ideal if you want a serene, romantic touch to your gallery. Especially beautiful in April when sakura trees bloom, this garden brings a poetic, dreamy feeling to your wedding story. We can include it in your photo walk if you’d like a nature-filled contrast to the city’s historic beauty.
