A Love Story in Southern France

There are weddings that feel like celebrations — and then there are weddings that feel like poetry.

This intimate château wedding at Château La Commanderie in Aude, South of France, belonged to the second kind. Liliana and Michel chose a destination wedding in France that reflected who they are: thoughtful, refined, and deeply connected to music and family.

Set within the rolling countryside of southern France, their wedding unfolded slowly — with intention, warmth, and quiet elegance.

Château La Commanderie — A Historic Wedding Venue in Aude

Nestled in the countryside of Plaigne, Château La Commanderie is one of the most characterful Aude wedding venues for couples planning a destination wedding in the South of France.

Its centuries-old stone walls, intimate courtyard, and soft golden light create an atmosphere that feels both grand and deeply personal. Unlike larger estates designed for spectacle, this château lends itself beautifully to intimate château weddings — where every guest is present, every detail meaningful. For Liliana and Michel, the château became more than a setting. It became part of their story.

A Musical Wedding Ceremony in a French Château

A Family That Speaks in Music. What made this wedding at Château La Commanderie truly extraordinary was the music.

Liliana’s father, a composer, arranged her favourite songs into a custom orchestral score for the ceremony. Her mother performed at the piano. Later, a live ensemble of French horn players filled the gardens with warm resonance.

For a wedding photographer in France, moments like these are unforgettable. Music changes the atmosphere. It alters the way light feels, the way people move, the way emotion settles in the air. Every frame carried rhythm. Every image held sound.

Beauty in Every Detail — Bridal Preparation at the Château.

The day began quietly inside one of Château La Commanderie’s elegant suites.

Soft window light filtered through pale shutters as makeup artist Vita Proshchenko prepared Liliana with calm precision. The aesthetic was timeless: luminous skin, natural tones, effortless refinement.

In destination weddings across the South of France, preparation is not simply a logistical phase — it sets the emotional tone of the entire day.

The stillness of these early hours allows anticipation to build gently.

Wedding Flowers by MB Boutique — Fleuriste MOF

Her bridal bouquet was made by her mother, a gesture filled with tenderness and artistry, perfectly complementing the floral compositions created by MB Boutique — Fleuriste MOF. Their work filled the château with seasonal blooms in soft tones of ivory, blush, and sage — a refined balance between structure and spontaneity that matched the romantic character of the day.For me, these details — flowers, scent, color — are what tie a story together. They add depth and atmosphere to every frame.

Culinary Experience by Hille Traiteur, Carcassonne

The evening reception carried the same sense of refined simplicity. Hille Traiteur, one of Carcassonne’s finest caterers, curated a menu that blended local flavor with cosmopolitan elegance.Guests began the cocktail hour with chilled champagne and an unforgettable treat — Gillardeau oysters, freshly shucked and served on ice in the château’s courtyard. It was a detail everyone remembered: delicate, briny, perfectly French.

Dinner continued under string lights, each course presented like a small piece of art. Hille Traiteur’s team moved with quiet choreography, ensuring that every plate arrived at just the right moment. Their cuisine matched the mood of the celebration — luxurious yet understated, focused on authentic taste and impeccable presentation.

Food has a way of uniting people, and on this evening, conversation flowed easily over fine wine and laughter. It was not about formality but about savoring: savoring the food, the place, the company, and the rare happiness of the day.

An Intimate Château Wedding with 30 Guests

Liliana and Michel chose to keep their wedding intentionally small — just thirty guests, each one truly close to their hearts. The result was a ceremony that felt deeply personal. The celebrant was Liliana’s best friend, whose heartfelt words brought tears and smiles in equal measure. The intimacy allowed everyone to feel seen, to participate rather than simply observe. After the vows, music once again filled the air. Glasses clinked, the horns played a lighthearted reprise, and the newlyweds led their guests into the courtyard for a relaxed aperitif. Every exchange was genuine, every embrace real.

Golden Hour Portraits at Château La Commanderie

As sunset approached, the château walls absorbed the last warmth of the southern light.

Golden hour in the South of France has a distinct softness — especially in historic estates surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills. For any château wedding photographer, this moment is where architecture, emotion, and light align.

Liliana’s veil caught the breeze. Michel’s gaze softened. The portraits we created during this time remain some of my favourite golden-hour images of the season.

An intimate château wedding allows space for these moments — unhurried, intentional, timeless.
