Golden hour on the Garonne
The afternoon light was softening over the Garonne when we met by the water. We started at the Bazacle, where the old brick mill sits right on the river, and walked towards the Pont Neuf as the dome of La Grave caught the last of the sun. The session stayed unhurried: a dance on the terrace, a few quiet minutes at the railing, a lot of laughing, rather than a long list of poses.
Where we photographed
The Bazacle is one of my favourite corners of Toulouse. Its brick terraces and tall arched windows turn orange in the evening, and the open water behind them gives a sense of space you rarely find in a city centre. From the railing you look across the Garonne to La Grave, its green copper dome rising above the far bank, with the Pont Neuf stretching between the two. Within a ten-minute walk you have brick, water, trees and that skyline, so the photographs change without the couple spending the evening on the move.
When the light is best
Here the sun goes down over the far bank of the Garonne, so the hour before sunset is the moment to be on the riverbank. From late spring to early autumn the low sun turns the brick almost pink. In winter the light comes earlier and softer, and the quays are much quieter. Weekday evenings are calmer than weekends, when half of Toulouse comes down to the river.
